Why would you want to holiday at home? We’re into travel… adventure! But with the world economy the way it’s been lately, you might find that your budget just won’t take a big international trip.
In the U.S., the press has even come up with a new word for this… “staycation” instead of vacation.
You still need a break from work, so…. you can find fun and adventure close to home. Plan something a little less ambitious this year and save money to get back out into the world next year.
I don’t know about you, but there really are quite a few fun things to do close to where we live; we just don’t take the time to do them.
At the same time, when we visit friends in other states or countries, we find that they take us to fun and interesting spots, but they say they never go because it’s so close to home. (more…)
When is the best time to go on that trip you’re dreaming about? If you’re lucky, you can plan the time of year you travel and schedule your holiday ahead of time. Some people can’t get away when the company has deadlines.
You may have to plan your time around when the kids are out of school. If you’re an American, you might only have two weeks of vacation.
No matter what limiting factors you might have to work with, it’s good to think about the best time to go to enjoy the activities or sites for your destination. If your vacation time is short, this is especially important! (more…)
Start shopping early if you’re booking a flight for any holidays…. or a wedding or a cruise. There have been capacity cuts on all the airlines these last couple of years, so there will be fewer seats for those holiday flights.
If you’re going on an impromptu trip, you can look and book at the last minute, but if you HAVE to be there for Christmas or Mother’s Day or a wedding or that cruise, booking a flight at least six weeks ahead is probably a good idea.
Internet booking gurus suggest the best time to shop for your flight online is a Monday or Tuesday. Airlines typically lower fares early in the week and raise them again toward the weekend. (more…)
